OSU Wins Two OnCon Team Awards
Oregon State University Information and Technology received two awards at last night's annual OnConference OnCon Awards ceremony. The Office of Information Security was voted as a Top 10 Information Security Team alongside organizations like Morgan Stanley and DISH Network, and UIT as a whole was voted as a Top 50 Technology Team, accompanied by organizations such as the American Red Cross and the US Department of Energy.
The OnCon Icon Awards recognize the top teams in the entire world as voted on and determined by the public. Nominees span multiple industries from major retailers to health and financial institutions. While finalists were chosen based on nominations and applications, the top 50 were voted for by their community and peers. Thousands of votes were tallied to determine award winners for this year's OnCon Icon Awards, and it was a very competitive process. OSU was one of the strongest vote recipients for the Information Security Team award category.
An earlier quote from OSU’s Chief Information Security Officer, David McMorries, about OSU’s nomination:
I am both honored and humbled that our team at Oregon State University has been nominated for the prestigious Top 50 Information Security Team Award by OnConferences. It is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion our collective OSU IT team brings to the information security landscape every single day. This nomination is not just about recognizing our achievements; it’s a reflection of the tireless efforts and the impactful contributions our team has made to the broader cybersecurity community.

I’d like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to our esteemed Chief Information Officer, Andrea Ballinger. Her visionary leadership, unwavering support, and steadfast commitment to excellence have undoubtedly been instrumental in our success. Andrea’s ability to inspire innovation and encourage thought leadership has allowed us to exceed our expectations and continuously push the boundaries of what’s possible in information security.
We share this honor with every member of our team, our peers who have recognized our work, and the broader Oregon State University community. While we celebrate this recognition, it also serves as motivation to continue innovating, contributing, and leading in our field. Our journey towards safeguarding our institution’s digital assets is a continuous one, and every milestone, such as this nomination, is a powerful reminder of the difference we’re making.
Let us all remember that security is not just a team effort, but a community responsibility. Together, we can continue to make OSU a safer, more secure digital environment for all.”
