AI Week at OSU: How AI is changing the landscape of education and research

Last week, OSU hosted its inaugural AI Week, a series of events and workshops showcasing the latest developments and applications of artificial intelligence. The events focused on the capabilities for AI in transforming research and higher education, and culminated Friday with a Global Futures Forum and discussion featuring OSU’s president, Dr. Murthy, and OSU alum and NVIDIA founder and CEO, Jensen Huang.

On Tuesday, UIT collaborated with Microsoft to host The Role of AI in Education Day, featuring breakout sessions for students, faculty, and IT employees, and a keynote from Dr. Michael Jabbour, Microsoft’s Chief Innovation Officer for Higher Education. Dr. Jabbour shared his insights on how AI can transform education and empower learners, emphasizing the importance of developing ethical, inclusive, and human-centered AI solutions that can enhance learning outcomes and foster collaboration. He also gave a presentation on prompt engineering, explaining the art and science of designing effective prompts that elicit desired responses from AI systems. He shared some of the best practices and challenges of prompt engineering, and gave examples of how it can be applied to various domains and tasks, such as summarization, sentiment analysis, and creative writing.
